Speech

Kia ora ko brooke toku ingoa, No reira, tena koutou, tena koutou, tena koutou katoa.

I don't think social media is that great. I actually believe there are more negatives to having it than not having it. There's so much more to life than just sitting on your device posting stuff. It's not healthy and here's a few reasons why I think this.

Bullying
Bullying is a big thing. And it can often be made worse when it happens online. so many people in the world get bullied online. people say things to someone that they wouldn't say in person, it's sometimes easier for a person to hide behind the screen than say it to someone's face. Maybe it gives the person courage to be mean because they don't have to see the other person's reaction. Sometimes others are mean and comments on people's pages. this can cause people to feel un liked, maybe overweight, depressed, scared, ugly and even anxious too.

Create competition
When you have a social media account you want to get lots of followers. You might even have people that you don't even know properly or have anything in common with. the more friends you have, the more popular it makes you feel. People want lots of likes and nice comments on the photos they have posted and on the comments they have written. People talk aboutout how many followers and likes they have and this can cause unhealthy competition.

Gratification
People put their lives online because they want other people to like them and compliment them. They want people to say that they look nice, that makes things feel Popular and liked by other people. This is not healthy for your mind. You should be happy with who you are and what you look like.

No socialising in the real world
Instead of talking to people on social media talk to them in the real word. you should talk to people face to face. You can see people's reactions, and see how they feel and also you can hear the tone of there voice. This is good for your listening skills.

There is some Good stuff about social media though. It's not all bad.
it's easy to contact other people in different countries or just stay in touch with people. you can get news off social media like what Donald Trump has just tweeted and other important stuff about what's happening in the world. People can also promote there business, you can sell stuff, and research things that you did not already know.

So there you go. There's the reason I believe that social media is not healthy for your body and mind. So next time you pick up your device to tell the world what you had for dinner, think about what I've said today. You might find that riding your bike or taking your dog for a walk is more satisfying.
